WHICH VEIL MATCHES YOUR STYLE?
Veils exist in a great many lengths, materials, and colours. Whether you choose a veil that is wonderful in its simplicity or a veil that is abundantly embellished with lace, rhinestones and decorative flowers, Poirier always has the veil that fits your personal style. Be you, and trust on your own aesthetics and taste, whether you want a romantic, modern, vintage or more casual chic look. Your wedding specialist will also be eager to help you choose the right fit. Try a variety of different types of veils, like elbow- or cathedral-length, and decide on how you want to make your grant entrance! Be inspired by Poirier’s extensive range of bridal veils…
CHOOSE THE LENGTH OF YOUR VEIL
Veils are available in different lengths, and 7 of them were given their own distinctive name. At Poirier there are veils available in different lengths, from 75 cm (elbow-length) all the way up to 4 m (queen-length).
Elbow
• 75-100 cm • Choose authenticity with a modern twist, because this is what elbow-length veils are all about. This type of veil is an elegant way to have a cover without wearing a full-on bolero or scarf.
fingertip
• 120 - 200 cm • Fingertip-length veils are very popular, because they show the details on the skirt of a bridal gown. Not too short, not too long, but elegant nonetheless!
waltz
• 210 - 250 cm • This type of veil can also be worn during your reception, because you can accept all your congratulations while wearing this veil type. You can even wear it during your opening dance, and “waltz” in it.
chapel
• 280 - 290 cm • A veil with chapel-length creates the illusion of wearing a train, because it has some length that you wear behind your actual wedding gown. When you want to get your groove on, you take of your veil.
church
• 300 - 340 cm • This length is ideal for a church wedding. Church-length is somewhat more spectacular than chapel-length, but more practical than cathedral-length. Do not let the length of your veil hold you back from anything during your grant day.
cathedral - queen
• more than 350 cm • Choose a “royal entrance” with this type of veils. You will need assistance to hold and display your veil when you choose cathedral- or queen-length.
A VEIL CAN HAVE MULTIPLE LAYERS…
There is a great variety of veils. It is up to you to choose a wonderful veil either with or without a blusher. At Poirier we even have circular veils.
WITH BLUSHER OR WITHOUT BLUSHER
• Single layer (1 layer) = without “blusher” • Double-layered (2 layers) – with a “blusher” that can be worn in front of the face
Circular veil or “mantilla”
At Poirier we also have a circular type of veil available. This veil type has its origins in Spain, and is also known as a “Spanish veil” or “mantilla”.
SPECIAL MATERIALS AND FINISHES
TULLE – LACE – 3D FLOWERS & ORNAMENTS – SEQUINS – RHINESTONES – BEADS – EMBROIDERY – And much more...
Did you know…
At Poirier we have put a special system in place to be able to see quickly which veil is which. The standard to see immediately how a veil name is composed, you can see below: Example • Product number “S50-280/2/soft” • S50 = model number • 280 = length in cm • /2 = number of layers • /soft = type of tulle
SOFT TULE - MEDIUM SOFT TULE
During the design process of a veil the choice of which type of tulle is needed will be made. In case a veil needs to have a narrow fit, than soft tulle is being used, and when a veil needs to have more volume, or when heavier lace or embellishments are being used, a veil is being made with medium tulle.
THE COLOUR OF YOUR WEDDING DRESS + A VEIL = THE PERFECT MATCH!
At Poirier there is always a veil that seamlessly matches your wedding dress. The most popular colour is ivory, but we also offer veils in soft colours, like: champagne, blush, and peach.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO WEAR A VEIL?
A veil can be worn in a great variety of ways, depending on where you wear the comb of the veil in your bridal hairstyle. A romantic look, or a look with a blusher, is usually created by wearing the comb on top of your head. While trying on wedding dresses, make sure to check the placing of your veil as well. Incorporate a wonderful bridal hair accessory in your wedding look with the exquisite items of Poirier.
Tip 1
Use the special bridal veil clips of Poirier. Hair jewels are easy to attach to the comb of your veil.
TIP 2
Use a hair jewel or tiara for an extra elegant or romantic look.
Tip 3
When you choose a long or heavy veil, you can secure a comb even more by making use of small hairpins.

WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS OF BRIDAL VEILS?
There are many stories about the use of bridal veils. Veils are probably the most ancient bridal accessory that is still available today. Nowadays most bridal veils are white, but Old-Roman brides usually wore red veils, and brides in ancient Greece wore yellow ones. Veil traditions through the ages even went as far as Dutch brides not being able to buy a great wedding dress, but they made sure that they were able to buy a great veil.
The story behind bridal veils
The use of bridal veils has its origins in the history of arranged marriages. Back in the day a veil would prohibit the groom to see his bride before the marriage was final, so a groom would first lay his eyes on his wife when the marriage was finalized. This origin story comes from the Middle-East. In ancient folklore bridal veils are meant to hide away brides from evil spirits. A veil would be lifted when the bride was in the presence of her groom, so he could protect her.
Which veils are on-trend these days?
These days brides wear all sorts of veils, either long or a veil that has a long train, but short and hip bridal veils are being worn as well. In the photo slider on the right you can see veils that have been worn by British Royals: The Queen Mum, Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle.
